Sweeten up cocktail hour with these cherry whisky drinks
Cherry is having its moment right now. There’s something about those juicy, ripe, sweet and tart flavours that keep us coming back for more. We’ve collected our favourite Ballantine’s cherry cocktails – so you can toast with a taste of this season’s superstar.
Cherry Scotch & Soda
If this is your first try at a cherry whisky cocktail, let’s start with a recipe that’s simple but seriously effective. Pour Ballantine’s Finest, cherry juice and soda water into a glass filled with ice and ta-dah. Want to add an actual cherry on top? We won’t stop you.
Cherry Whisky Sour
We’ve brought out the big guns for this one. And by big guns we mean our Ballantine’s Wild – the cherry flavoured spirit that’ll turn any cocktail into an adventure. Add the spirit to a cocktail shaker along with lime juice, cherry syrup, a splash of sugar syrup and a good amount of ice. Give it a good shake up and pour through a strainer. Garnish with a cherry to complete the look.
Cherry Tonic
It’s not a competition… But if it was we reckon you’d win cocktail hour with this cherry combo. Best of all, it’s ridiculously simple to make. Just top Ballantine’s Wild with tonic water for a cherry-forward cocktail. It tastes like it took a lot more effort than mixing two drinks should taste.
Maraschino Cherry Old Fashioned
This is an Old Fashioned with a sweet and tart twist. Make an Old Fashioned the way you prefer it and add a dash of maraschino liqueur to the whisky, sugar and bitters mix before garnishing with a maraschino cherry (or a regular cherry if that’s what you’ve got). This combo is a real IYKYK moment.
Once you’ve found your cherry cocktail of dreams, why not take a look at our other Ballantine’s cocktail guides? We’ve got fruity. We’ve got chocolatey. We’ve even got snacky guides that’ll help you sip and savour in style.
