South African-based deep house musician Jackie Queens is something of an outlier. She’s also the founder of Bae Electronica: a local indie house label focused on amplifying the voices of South African women in deep house.

Jackie Queens started Bae Electronica, in 2015, out of frustration with hitting walls with record labels multiple times. with her creative process being repeatedly obstructed.

From there, she began to use Bae Electronica as a vehicle to collaborate with and uplift other women musicians through independent releases of their music. A vocalist herself, Queens noticed that women are asked for features more frequently than they are asked to do performances, so she threw her first party with a vocalist as the headline act in 2018, at the True Music pop-up in Cape Town.
