Kentucky Whisky Mule Cocktail Ballantine's

The Moscow Mule is a classic summer cocktail, made with vodka, ginger beer and lime. Whilst we appreciate the clear spirits, we’re all about whisky here at Ballantine’s. So naturally we’ve put our own scotch spin on the traditional recipe. From a classic whisky mule to fruity and frozen twists, here are our favourite whisky variations on a Moscow Mule. However you like your mule, make it your way.

Scotch Kentucky Mule

We’re kicking off with an OG whisky twist on a Moscow Mule. The combo of scotch and ginger is a match made in cocktail heaven. Fiery spice meets smooth, sweet whisky with the added refreshing bonus of lime juice. Our Kentucky Mule recipe calls for tons of ice and a sprig of mint garnish. Perfect for your spontaneous summer sessions.

Middleton Mule

If you like your drinks on the sweet side then you’ll love the Middleton Mule. This cocktail uses a classic Kentucky Mule recipe with the addition of ginger syrup for extra spiced sweetness. Make your syrup at home by melting sugar into water on the stove before simmering with fresh ginger for 15 minutes. Cool it, strain it and pour it into your mule.

Swap a squeeze of zesty lime for a pour of freshly squeezed OJ and an orange wheel garnish. Or go the whole hog and add a dash of triple sec for extra orangey goodness. Use our orange highball recipe as a base, replacing lemon soda for ginger beer.

Frozen Whisky Mule

Sometimes summer calls for extra ice. When the heat’s on and the music’s pumping, there’s nothing more refreshing than a frozen cocktail. Swap your shaker for a blender and whizz up a round of frozen mules. It’s simple – chuck in some ice, pour in twice as much liquid ingredients and blend until smooth.
