8 easy blended cocktails you can whizz up in minutes
If summer’s got you sweating and in need of a serious refresher, then blended cocktails need to be top of your agenda. You can add an iced twist to most recipes, from your favourite whisky smash to those beachside fruity flavours. But if you’re in need of some inspiration, read on.
We’ve put a frozen spin on our most popular drinks in this rundown of the best blended cocktails. So grab the blender, chuck in some ice and get the music pumping because these frozen recipes are chillingly good. Definitely worth the brain freeze.
How to blend cocktails at home
There’s no wrong way to whizz up a blended cocktail. But if you want to make a drink that’s perfectly smooth and deliciously flavoured, here are some tips we’ve learnt along the way.
First up you’re going to want to add about twice as much ice as liquid, starting off with any softer ingredients like berries and fruits at the bottom. This will make sure you get that silky slushie texture.
You don’t want to get too heavy handed. Pulse for a few seconds at a time to crush up large ice cubes before going for a longer blend. Add a dash of juice or water if things get too solid or your blender sticks. And don’t forget to taste test until it’s to your liking.
Last thing – don’t add too much at once. Doing so will almost guarantee a cocktail explosion. So get in line and wait your turn (or get your mates to bring their blender).
This whisky ice cream cocktail might be called a Shake but it’s actually all about the blend. Whizz together vanilla ice cream, liquid chocolate and Ballantine’s Finest whisky with ice and milk until you get a smooth and creamy pour. Then it’s time for toppings. We love extra cream, extra chocolate and tons of marshmallows – but you can’t go wrong with whatever takes your fancy. Add popcorn, cookies or an entire donut. It’s the ultimate dessert cocktail for over 18s.
