Launching the thunderbolt inspired design, we’re looking back at the best AC/DC songs to top the charts over the last five decades. So grab a bottle of Ballantine’s X AC/DC limited edition and get head banging to these legendary hits.

Thunderstruck

Listen to with a Dark & Thunderstruck

You can’t hear Thunderstruck’s epic opening riff without rocking out. The track is AC/DC’s lead single from The Razors Edge, a major comeback album for the band. Since its 1990 release, it’s become a major hit and popular backing track for blockbuster movies including The Super Mario Bros, Deadpool 2, and the Thor: Ragnarok finale scene.

Inspired by the iconic hit, we created Dark & Thunderstruck, an AC/DC twist on a Kentucky Mule. It’s refreshing, spicy and easy to drink.

Refreshing but with a slight kick. The Dark and Thunderstruck cocktail is created with our Ballantine’s True Music Icons AC/DC Limited Edition

Highway to Hell

Listen to with a Whisky on the Rocks

The opening track of AC/DC’s 1979 album is a true rock anthem. Highway to Hell’s notorious intro, catchy lyrics and infectious riff makes it a classic for both old and new generations. AC/DC’s most recognised track deserves to be listened to with one of our most recognised drinks. The Whisky on the Rocks. Just like the song, it’s ballsy, simple and good enough to drink on repeat after a long day on the road.

Whisky on the Rocks

As the pinnacle in the Ballantine’s range, the 30 year old has been garnished with a simple cube of ice, in order to accentuate its natural depth and layers.

You Shook Me All Night Long

Listen to with a Passion Fruit Sour

From the 1980 Back in Black album comes You Shook Me All Night Long, a new beginning for AC/DC with the introduction of a new lead singer. Brian Johnson’s first hit takes us back to the road, comparing his passion for cars with his love of women. The track is a banger, a lot like our Passion Fruit Sour. Jumpstart cocktail hour with the exotic mix of passion fruit, lime and whisky.

Shoot to Thrill

Listen to with a Cold Brew Kick

Live bold, live dangerously and Shoot to Thrill with AC/DC’s second track from the Back in Black album. This legendary track was never released as a single but quickly became a fan favourite and regular hit on rock stations.

Pumped with powerful lyrics and electrifying guitar riffs, Shoot to Thrill is full of energy. The ultimate track to listen to with a Cold Brew Kick, a daring mix of coffee and whisky that’ll keep you caffeinated all night long.

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

Listen to with a Cherry Wild Sour

From AC/DC’s third studio album in 1976 comes Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, a classic hit that shows off the band’s rebellious nature. Paying homage to Angus Young’s childhood cartoon Beany and Cecil, it introduces listeners to a criminal character who’ll do your dirty deeds for a dirt cheap fee. Cyanide, TNT, high voltage – whatever you want, he’ll do it.

For those living on the wild side, try a Cherry Whisky Sour. Our punchy, fruity take on a classic cocktail is made with Ballantine’s Wild, a cherry flavoured whisky for free-spirits and unexpected moments.

Whole Lotta Rosie

Listen to with a Rob Roy

Voted Kerrang!’s Ultimate Metal Track, Whole Lotta Rosie was one of AC/DC’s first big hits outside of Australia. The Let There Be Rock album track is a twisted tale of a night with a Tasmanian woman.

It’s badass and somewhat controversial. But remains a live performance favourite for the band. Rock along with a Rob Roy, a legendary, full-bodied drink named after a Scottish outlaw that became a national hero for his rebellious behaviour.

Rob Roy

For those in the know, a Rob Roy is simply a Manhattan made with scotch. But also, it’s the shot of Ballantine’s 12 that makes it a true Scottish legend.

Hells Bells

Listen to with a Penicillin

AC/DC’s awaited return after the death of Bon Scott hung on the first track of the Back in Black album. And it was a good one. A low solemn chime of a 2,000 pound church bell interrupted by Angus Young’s riffing set the scene for an epic comeback.

The tribute was written amidst a tropical storm in the Bahamas which inspired many of the track’s lyrics. Rolling thunder, pouring rain, lightning bolts and hurricanes. A darkness that could only be matched by the thunderous kick of flavours found in a Penicillin. Warning: it’s seriously spicy but seriously good.

Problem Child

Listen to with an Old Fashioned

Take what you want, break what you don’t. That’s the message behind AC/DC’s 1976 song Problem Child. The wild lyrics are matched with a groovy rock track that makes it seriously good to rock out to.

Some say the rule breaking protagonist was inspired by a rebellious young Angus Young. And like Problem Child we don’t live by the rules. That’s why our Old Fashioned recipe is made our way. With scotch whisky finished in American Barrels and orange bitters for extra zest.

Old Fashioned

Our favourite way to enjoy an Old Fashioned is with Ballantine’s 7 Bourbon Barrel Finish, with a couple of dashes of orange bitters to complement the sweet notes of the whisky.
