27 Feb 2020 - 28 Feb 2020Bogota
Known for its rich musical history, Colombia’s musical roots were born out of influence of the Caribbean and Latin American indigenous culture; from the originating vibrant sounds of dancehall, salsa and cumbria to the rise of rock and urban music years through the 1980s. Today, Colombia is at the epicentre of the explosion of the Reggaeton Latino urbano sounds, with the Puerto Rican-rooted diaspora paving the way for the rise of Reggaeton in a new guise spreading through the local music events.
It’s a musical territory we explored back at our seminal True Music Madrid party last year, where the local underground music scene was bubbling with new devilishly Mediterranean interpretations of the reggaeton rhythms. In Bogota, Reggaeton is mixed with electronic synths and Guaracha sounds, a Colombian tribal house born out of the underground, to create a genre-defying soundtrack for socially transgressive parties. Colombia’s pop-Reggaeton scene has undergone a rapid evolution in recent years, with Bogotá leading the charge in redefining the perception of the genre.
Continuing on our Take a Stand for True Music mission we’re celebrating the most vital artists in the blossoming scene with a debut broadcast out of Colombia to shine a light on the diverse, inclusive community and sharing it with the world. The line-up features a heavy-hitting roster of the whos-who of the country’s most exciting rappers, DJs and selectors. Get ready to get those knees, hips, and cheeks in motion as we introduce you to the firestarters that lit up the dancefloor of the True Music Bogota show:
Pope has been a key architect in the rise of its brightest star, J Balvin. Together they have over 15 years in the game, launching the biggest successes of the reggaeton scene. Starting from the bottom...now they’re here!
His sound is characterized by a bold mix of afro-latin rhythms, organic and synthetic textures and samples inspired by Latin-America influences. He is most known for remixes that flips classic reggaeton over his distinct, underground productions, as well as frenetic and high-energy DJ sets.
Juanita Castellannos a.k.a. Paquita Gallego, is a selector of new Latin-American sounds. With an elegant repertoire of cumbia, she's guaranteed to get the hips of dancers to vibrate. She rescues the musical roots and diversity of genres that represent Colombia.
Juliana Pachón, aka Dj Pony, started playing in small underground parties and clubs in Bogota. Now, she gathered a solid fan base around the country, she found her place in the city’s nightlife as a partisan of versatility and acceptance. Her only purpose: make people dance all night long!
As a founding member of The Noise, a seminal collective of Puerto Rican artists that not only turned the Latin music scene on its head, but are actually credited with giving Reggaeton it’s name. DJ Playero is the Godfather of Latin Urban music. Watch out for the classics!
Ever since early 2018, Pablo Jaramillo has become a sort of trap golden boy among Bogotá’s youth. The release of his ambitious and addictive breakthrough single “Mercho Percho” rapidly earned him a cult following that remains steady to this date, also landing him massive festival slots such as Estéreo Picnic and Sónar Barcelona ’19.
Ghetto Kumbé is the meeting in Bogotá of 3 great Colombian musicians from the Caribbean coast. A combo of highly skilled singers and percussionists, their transcendent ritual’s draw on a powerful base of percussion, Caribbean house beats and traditional afro Colombian rythmes inspired from west Africa.
